The Nile is the life blood of Egypt and for a long time, travellers have travelled to cruise up and down the river in between Luxor and Aswan. They come to appreciate the historical treasures that are found in abundance in this part of Egypt and to sit back and take it easy as their boat sails down the River Nile.
In most cases, a Nile cruise is 7 nights and from there, holiday makers either return home but they also have the alternative to visit other sections of The Red Sea. There are a good amount of resorts along the coast offering something for everyone.
The most sought after resort in The Red Sea is Sharm el Sheikh el Sheikh but it also quite tricky to get to from Luxor. Because of the long distance, the only genuine preference is to catch a plane but depending on airline availability and timings, it may mean a night in a hotel in Luxor just before catching a flight the following day.
The most economical preference is to stay in Luxor but its a long way from the Red Sea. However, the coast is easily accessible by road in around 4 hours. The biggest resort is Hurghada which has quite a few hotels but there are opportunities to the north of Hurghada at El Gouna or to the south at a number of areas including Soma Bay, Makadi Bay and El Quseir.
The resorts close to Hurghada are the cheapest alternative as the flight back is from Luxor which means charter airlines can be used rather than the more extravagant scheduled airlines. Hurghada itself is a fast paced location with all sorts of hotels from budget up to 5* luxury.
El Gouna is more secluded and is fantastic for the people looking for a less noisy 7 days by the sea after a Nile cruise. For remote luxury, El Quseir is the best alternative with just two self contained hotels being recommended; the Movenpick or the Radisson Blu. This part of Egypt is very underdeveloped and the town of Quseir is worth visiting if you want to watch a town that remains to be more or less tourist free.
